What is this trial about?
The CUPISCO study is investigating the use of targeted therapies or cancer immunotherapies versus chemotherapy in patients with cancer of unknown primary origin.
Detailed description
Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) is a rare tumor that is difficult to treat and is usually metastatic from the outset. Currently, chemotherapy is the best available treatment for this condition. In the CUPISCO study, all patients initially receive 3 cycles of chemotherapy. They are then randomly assigned to one of two treatment options. In the standard treatment option, they continue to receive chemotherapy. In the experimental treatment option, they receive a therapy that was discussed by a specialized tumor board based on the results of the tumor analyses. If the disease has progressed after the initial 3 cycles of chemotherapy, the findings are always reviewed for this patient group by the specialized tumor board.
