What is this trial about?

The FIRE-4 study is investigating whether re-treatment with the anti-EGFR antibody cetuximab in third-line therapy results in a better response than another chemotherapy regimen.

Detailed description

The antibody cetuximab plays a significant role in the treatment of colorectal cancer. Patients who do not carry a specific gene mutation in their tumor (KRAS) can be treated with it. Data from previous studies show that patients may benefit from retreatment with cetuximab if they have received a different therapy in the interim. The FIRE-4 study is now attempting to confirm these findings through a study with a control arm. In the control arm, patients receive a treatment of the physician’s choice (which may also be chemotherapy). In the study arm, chemotherapy is administered in addition to cetuximab.
